Need a Lag Fix?

Server side lag issues

Vanilla Demon runs on Enterprise quality hardware. We take server side lag very seriously, let it be connection or server load issues.

If you believe the server is lagging please fill a bug report and we’ll investigate.

Client side lag issues

While there are many potential reasons for lag, the majority of all lag reports we receive turn out to be client side issues. They can generally be solved by installing performance mods such as OptiFine and using Ethernet cable instead of wireless to improve connection.

Using OptiFine?

Try out this performance mod for Minecraft. Make it run faster and look better with full support for HD textures and many configuration options.

  • Doubling FPS is common
  • Decreases lag spikes
  • Smooths gameplay

OptiFine Install Tutorial

Can I improve my connection?

You can try installing Leatrix. It will attempt to reduce your online gaming latency significantly by increasing the frequency of TCP acknowledgements sent to the game server. For the technically minded, this is a program which will modify TCPAckFrequency.

Some say it’s pointless with any modern OS, others swear on their life that it works.

What else can I do to speed up my Minecraft client?

Read Minecraft client optimization guide by Paper Chan. It has lots of info about improving MC client performance.

More common sources of client side lag

- Very high render distance (options > video settings)
- Internet cables not firmly connected
- Outdated Java version
- AntiVirus causing lag spikes to Java programs
- Not playing Minecraft in FULL SCREEN
- Outdated operating system/drivers
- Slow computer

If you managed to fix your issue(s) via other means – drop us a message and we’ll add it to potential solutions.
